MyCOYOTE  WILL BE DOWN:
Noon Thursday February 9, 2012 – Noon, Tuesday, February 14, 2012
This is due to the upgrade of our Peoplesoft student records system to the Version 9.0.   As a result, several services will not be available during this time.
Services NOT available through MyCoyote:
1) Faculty Center – View Courses, Class Rosters, Weekly Schedule and related services
2) Advising (PAWS) – Degree Audit Reporting/Access
3) Astra Scheduling – Class scheduling information
4) Student Center – View Classes, Academic Status, Transcripts, Add/Drop, Make Payments and related services
5) Human Resources, Academic Personnel , Applying for Positions, and Related Services

Services available during this time without interruption:

1) Email – both csusb.edu and coyote.csusb.edu
2) Black Board
3) Wireless Connectivity
4) All Services outside of MyCoyote that use CSUSB Authentication (Coyote ID)

What you can do with regards to ADVISING:
Please plan to review your academic records, PAWS degree audit, and related on line information before Noon on February 9, or after Noon on February 14. 
If you have an advising appointment during this time period, make sure you print your PAWS report before Noon on February 9 and bring a copy of it to your advising appointment.
Regarding the Office of Records, Registration & Evaluation:  During this time we will offer limited services to our students.  Request forms such as change of majors, grade discounts, grad checks, etc, cannot be processed until the upgrade is completed.   Our Evaluators will still be available on a walk-in basis; however, access to your records will not be accessible.  Normal operation will resume February 14.

FALL 2011 ACADEMIC RESILIENCY SCHOLARSHIP FUND RECIPIENTS
Sawai Lino, Sophomore, Administration major and Michael Basilious, Senior, Computer Engineering major, received $500 scholarships after the Fall 2011 quarter.  Sawai earned a 3.71 with 12 units during the Fall quarter,  while Michael earned a 3.42 with 16 units.  Each overcame difficult circumstances and demonstrated their academic resiliency.  Congratulations! 
Advising & Academic Services will be accepting Academic Resiliency Scholarship Fund applications in UH-380 immediately after the Winter 2012 quarter ends.   The basic minimum qualifications to receive a scholarship is that you are on academic probation and have signed a probation contract for Winter 2012, enrolled in at least 10 units, and that you earn at least a 3.2 GPA DURING the quarter.   Priority will be given to students who do not receive financial aid.  The deadline to submit the application is April 5, 2012

SPRING 2012 PRIORITY REGISTRATION BEGINS Wednesday February 15, 2012
Yes, next week, CSUSB will begin the registration process for the Spring 2012 quarter.  REGISTER DURING THE PRIORITY REGISTRATION PERIOD!  Why Wait?
NEED HELP IN RESOLVING A PROBLEM?  CALL OMBUDS SERVICES & GENDER EQUITY
If you have any university-related issue, complaint or conflict, (click for the website) Ombuds Services & Gender Equity  is a confidential, neutral, informal resource. You can work with the Director of Ombuds Services & Gender Equity, Tera Bisbee, one-on-one to discuss your situation and seek constructive, equitable options. The service is free. New Information about Sexual Harassment/Discrimination.  Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in an educational institution.  This includes sexual and gender discrimination, harassment, or retaliation and acts of sexual violence.  Each campus must now assign a Title IX Coordinator to oversee education, prevention and investigations. President Karnig appointed Tera Bisbee, Director of Ombuds Services & Gender Equity to oversee CSUSB’s Title IX

We want to bring to your attention CSUSB's Student Survival Website which is designed to help students who are experiencing academic challenges with their classes (for example:  low test scores, low grades, time management, etc.)  It also has answers to many other questions regarding academic matters, jobs, finances, health & safety, university "red tape," and campus life.  Students can access this website, at Survival Guide   We encourage you to take advantage of this excellent resource.

TIP #2  WHAT IS THE REPEAT POLICY? -   Click on the following link: REPEATING CLASSES
Did you know that you cannot take a course more than 3 times?  There are some majors which may limit you to repeating a course only once!  Check with your faculty advisor in the department of your major to see which courses this may apply to.  You can file a GRADE FORGIVENESS Petition for up to 24 units worth of coursework.

TIP #3   DID YOU KNOW THE LEARNING CENTER HAS TUTORS FROM A VARIETY OF SUBJECTS -- FREE ---?   Well, for Winter 2012, here is a list for you :  Accounting,  Arabic tutoring located in UH-007, check there for availability, Biology , Chemistry , Chinese, Economics,  English 311, 385 , English Writing (UH-387) - see the Writing Center Website or Online appointments for Writing Center  , Finance , Japanese , Mathematics , Psychology , Spanish tutoring located in UH-007 , Help with Study Skills , Supply Chain Management .  Click the Learning Center link above for more services available.

TIP#4    I’M AN ENGLISH MAJOR, WHERE DO I GO?  Most advising for undergraduate English major can be done on a “walk-in” basis. Go to the department office at UH 334 and check the list of Advisors posted on the bulletin board outside the office. Advising is also available from EPIC (English Peer Information Center) for undergraduate English majors. EPIC is located in UH 301.49 and its hours are also posted outside the department office and outside EPIC’s office. Students should bring a copy of their PAWS report to any advising session during the quarter.
